Westfalia Rhyhnern has found a new coach for the 2024/25 season before the end of the current season. Alexander Bruchhage comes from SC Neheim.
Three different coaches have been on the sidelines at Westfalia Rhynern this season – a picture not seen in previous years. From the summer of 2019 to November 2023, Michael Kaminski was a constant on the bench of the Oberliga club.
After a poor start to the season, the team parted ways and Kamil Bednarski took over as coach. However, the 38-year-old did not bring about the desired turnaround and had to leave in March. Since then, assistant coach Julian Stöhr has been in charge on an interim basis and Rhynern are in eleventh place with two matchdays to go.
However, the 33-year-old is not a permanent solution. Instead, Westfalia announced on Monday evening that they have agreed to work with Alexander Bruchhage from the summer.
Bruchhage is still fighting with Neheim to stay in the league
The 50-year-old knows exactly what it means to lead a club as a coach for many years. He took over SC Neheim in 2012 and led them into the Westfalenliga in 2016, which they have been able to maintain ever since. This year, however, relegation is looming. With two match days to go, they are three points and three goals off the safety of the drop zone.
Regardless of the outcome of the season, the club announced back in January that the Bruchhage era in Neheim would come to an end at the end of the season after twelve years. His successor is Ibrahima Mbaye, who is still on the sidelines for Oberliga side SG Finnentrop/Bamenohl.
In Rhynern, the coaching position is not the only change for the coming season: in addition to the two new arrivals Finn Schubert (Neheim) and Mohamed Lamine Kourouma (Finnentrop/Bamenohl), the club has already restructured its sporting management at the beginning of the month. Andreas Kersting decided to step down after 23 years in office. David Schmidt succeeds him and, together with Max Schhulte, is now responsible for the sporting direction in Rhynern
