The 1. FC Kaan-Marienborn started against Borussia Mönchengladbach II in the Regionalliga West. The kick-off saw a dramatic comeback in the closing stages.
After being promoted as champions of the Oberliga Westfalen, 1. FC Kaan-Marienborn has arrived in the Regionalliga West. The promoted team celebrated a 2:1 (0:1) home win over Borussia Mönchengladbach’s reserves to start the season after turning around Borussia’s long lead in the closing minutes.
Initially, it looked like a difficult start for the newcomer. Steffen Meuer scored the goal of the day for the visitors as early as the 14th minute. At least it looked that way for a long time before the hosts turned up the heat in the closing minutes and rewarded coach Thorsten Nehrbauer for his offensive changes: Attackman Daniel Hammel was on the spot in the 90th minute and equalised before he even managed to score the winning goal in injury time. Kaan-Marienborn started their mission to stay in the league with three points, an optimal start.
The next game for the promoted team is already on Friday (29 July, 6 p.m.) with the supposed game of the season: In the first cup round, second division team 1. FC Nuremberg will play, and in the regional league, points will be at stake on 7 August (2 p.m.) against the reserve team of 1. FC Cologne. Mönchengladbach welcome Rot-Weiß Oberhausen next Sunday (31 July, 2 p.m.)
