Promoted team faces two special home games – big crowd

Following its promotion to the Regionalliga West, FC Gütersloh faces its first home games of the season. Spectator interest is high.

FC Gütersloh narrowly missed out on a points win at the start of the season. The Regionalliga newcomer lost the guest game at SC Paderborn II with 2:3 after a turbulent final phase.

“The morale is right. On Friday it goes already further. We want to do better there, of course,” said coach Julian Hesse after the defeat in Paderborn, looking ahead to a special duel.

Because the first home game of the FCG in the history of the current Regionalliga West is a derby. SC Wiedenbrück will be the guest at Ohlendorf Stadium on Friday evening (7:30 p.m., RS live ticker). The last time the teams from the neighboring cities faced each other was over three years ago in the Oberliga. At that time, Wiedenbrück won 2:0.

Now FCG and SCW meet again one league higher. It is the first of two consecutive home match highlights for Hesse’s team. A week later, Holstein Kiel comes to the Heidewald for the first DFB Cup round (Saturday, August 12). Gütersloh earned the match against the second-division team by triumphing in the Westfalenpokal.

FC Gütersloh: 2600 tickets sold for DFB Cup match

And although there are probably more attractive opponents than KSV, the interest in the match is huge. According to FC, over 2600 tickets have already been sold (as of August 1).

By way of comparison, the average attendance in the previous season was just under 1,000. 2,800 fans were there when the club clinched promotion in the top match against Sportfreunde Lotte last May. So it should be at least as full for the cup match.

And advance sales for the Wiedenbrück derby are also going “brilliantly”, according to the Gütersloh-based team. 300 tickets have been sold so far, not including season tickets – in mid-July, the number of season tickets was 188.

The club’s advice to all those who are flirting with a visit to Ohlendorf Stadium for the home games against Wiedenbrück and Kiel: “In both cases, we recommend advance sales, also to relieve the stadium box offices and avoid waiting times. “
