Ahead of the home match against Rot-Weiss Essen, SSV Ulm celebrate their second win in a row. In double overtime, the promoted team beats Waldhof Mannheim.
Not won, but remained unbeaten again. After the 0:0 in the home match against Jahn Regensburg, Rot-Weiss Essen is now five games in a row without defeat. RWE want to continue this streak next Sunday when they play against SSV Ulm – but it will not be an easy task.
Ulm are one of the positive surprises of the young third division season so far. Just like Essen, they have only lost one game. This Sunday, the SSV scored the next success of note: Coach Thomas Wörle’s team won 2:0 at Waldhof Mannheim.
Lucas Röser’s goal towards the end of the first half (36th) and Tobias Rühle’s goal (90th +13th) gave Ulm the away victory. The crux of the game, however, had already happened after 13 minutes: Mannheim’s Julian Riedel was shown the red card for a rough foul. He had rudely pushed away the former Schalke talent Leonardo Scienza.
Shortly after half-time, the next unpleasant scene – this time, however, without the involvement of the players on the pitch. A substitute from Ulm went down while warming up in front of the Mannheim corner, he had apparently been hit by an object.
The match was then interrupted, after a few minutes the referee blew the whistle again. Outnumbered, Mannheim could not find an answer to the deficit – and had to accept a second sending-off shortly before the end. Laurent Jans was shown a yellow card in the 86th minute.
It was the second win in a row for Ulm. They have picked up ten points in their last four games and go into the home game against RWE as the second-strongest team in the league in terms of form.
In the first Sunday match, Erzgebirge Aue confirmed their strong form against Halleschen FC. The Violets won 3:1 (0:1) in front of 13,654 fans on Sunday and thus remain the first chaser of leaders Dynamo Dresden, who they face on the next matchday. Dominic Baumann (25th minute) gave HFC the lead before Steffen Meuer (62nd), Joshua Schwirten (79th) and Marcel Bär (90th +7th) turned the game around. (with dpa)
