The fifth-placed team in the Westfalenliga 2 has clarified its coaching position and presented a new coach for next season.
Until the summer of 2022, Holzwickeder SC competed in the Oberliga Westfalenliga; last season and this season, HSC is playing in the Westfalenliga.
It remains to be seen which league the club will play in after the summer break. As fifth in the table in Season 2 – just two points off the top of the table and with one game less to play – anything seems possible before the rest of the season begins.
However, it is already clear that Holzwickede will start the 2024/25 season with a new coach. And that is Kurtulus Öztürk, who will take over from Benjamin Hartlieb. The current coach had already announced his departure in the summer a few weeks ago. Time constraints had prompted him to make this decision.
Öztürk is a 43-year-old coach who spent a year at HSC at the end of his active career. He has also played for Borussia Dortmund II and Turkish professional clubs, among others.
But above all, Öztürk has experience as a coach in the professional game. As assistant coach to Marco Antwerpen, he was on the touchline at Viktoria Köln, Preußen Münster, Eintracht Braunschweig and Würzburger Kickers. Öztürk also assisted Markus Kauczinski at Wehen Wiesbaden.
Öztürk is currently in charge of the district league club and his home club Werner SC. He is expected to remain there until the end of the season. The Werner native is already involved in squad planning for the coming season at his future club.
“Kurtulus Öztürk has an impressive CV both as a player and as a coach. He knows his way around both the professional and amateur game and combines many important attributes such as professional expertise, loyalty and regional ties,” says Karl Lösbrock, Head of Sport at Holzwickede. “Through his time as a player at the former HSV, he knows the environment in Holzwickede and can identify 100 percent with the club. I am very happy to have been able to recruit such a proven expert for our club. “
