In Formula 1, Max Verstappen took his 17th win of the season at the Brazilian Grand Prix. He now only needs one more win to overtake Vettel in the all-time wins table.
At the Brazilian Grand Prix in São Paulo, Max Verstappen extended his winning record to 17 victories this season.
52nd career victory for Verstappen
In what was initially a dramatic race, Verstappen ultimately secured first place for the 52nd time in his career. “We were good on all tires. It was a very strong race,” commented Verstappen on the victory.
Lando Norris rolled in in second place, suffering from the Red Bull driver’s aplomb: “It seems that Max has an answer for everything, which is a shame,” said Norris.
The last free place on the podium was secured by veteran Fernando Alonso after a thrilling final duel with Sergio Pérez. “When he overtook me two laps before the end, I thought: That’s it for the podium,” said Alonso. However, he managed to counter again in his Aston Martin.
Verstappen is on the verge of a Vettel record
He could equal Vettel’s record of 53 victories at the next race in Las Vegas. Should he then also win the season finale in Abu Dhabi, he would be alone in third place in the all-time wins table. Only Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton have won more often in Formula 1 history, with 91 and 103 Grand Prix victories respectively.
