Rot-Weiss Essen will play its away match at SC Verl next Sunday. The Ultras are calling on the red-white fan community to take part in a motorcade.
Rot-Weiss Essen have lost their last two home games against SSV Ulm 1846 and Spielvereinigung Unterhaching. Meanwhile, things have gone better away from home recently: a win in Regensburg and a draw in Dresden.
Perhaps it is a good thing that RWE will play their next third division match away from home. Around 125 kilometers separate the stadium on Hafenstrasse and SC Verl’s Poststrasse. On Sunday, March 10, 4:30 p.m., Rot-Weiss Essen will host the East Westphalians.
The Ultras Essen are calling for a motorcade for this match. “Form carpools and follow our RWE”, says the “Rude-Fans” website. The meeting point is at 12.30 pm at the stadium on Hafenstraße, the red and white cars will then set off from 1 pm in the direction of the A2 to East Westphalia.
It could well be that many will follow this call. Because once again, the fans of Rot-Weiss Essen are living up to their reputation as the most well-traveled supporters in the 3rd division. 1530 tickets have been sold for the away game in Verl – that means: sold out! RWE will not get any more tickets. A total of 5207 spectators are seated in the stadium on Poststrasse.
Although RWE have only picked up one point from their last three matches and have now dropped back to 8th place in the table – seven points behind third place in the relegation play-offs – they will once again be supported by numerous fans away from home.
And the team has by no means lost sight of third place in the last ten games. Captain Vinko Sapina emphasized after the 3-1 defeat to Unterhaching: “How many points does a team in the middle of the table have between them and third place? If it were ten or eleven points now, then it would be something else. That’s exactly where we’ll continue. We are ambitious and want to play at the top again.”
And: After the 0:5 in the first leg at Hafenstraße against Verl, the Essen team still has a lot to make up for
