Regensburg responds to Aachen point, first relegation looms

In the 3rd division, the first relegation is becoming increasingly clear, while Jahn Regensburg celebrates an important victory at the bottom of the table. Two teams have been relegated from the 2nd division to the 3rd division—and both could be relegated to the regional league. Both SSV Jahn Regensburg and SSV Ulm 1846 are in acute danger of relegation. From Regensburg’s point of view, it was clear that they had to win the late Saturday game at 1. FC Schweinfurt 05. The “Schnüdel” are bottom of the table and probably only a miracle can save them now.

Jahn made their presence felt after just four minutes. Midfielder Benedikt Saller played the ball to Sebastian Stolze, who failed to shoot on goal from the run.

Noel Eichinger did better after eleven minutes. The Regensburg player latched onto a precise through ball from Benedikt Bauer and slotted the ball into the right corner to make it 1-0 for Jahn.

Points Table

It was a fair result, especially as Regensburg could have increased their lead after 17 minutes. Adrian Fein found Saller with a corner, but he failed to get his header or follow-up shot past Schnüdel in goal.

Overall, Regensburg deserved the half-time score. After 39 minutes, center forward Eric Hottmann set out to increase the lead, but Johannes Geis blocked for Schweinfurt at the last second. So Jahn went into the break with a 1-0 lead.

The first excitement of the second half didn’t come until the 63rd minute – but it was a big one. Felix Strauss was shown a yellow card for a foul, but then said something to referee Daniel Bartnitzki that he didn’t like. As a result, the Regensburg player was sent off with a red card.

However, Schweinfurt failed to capitalize on their numerical advantage. Instead, Regensburg had chances to seal the game, but failed to do so. And in the sixth minute of stoppage time, Schweinfurt almost equalized. However, Manuel Wintzheimer was denied by Jahn keeper Felix Gebhardt, who reacted strongly.

In the end, Jahn held on to their important 1-0 away win, which meant that Alemannia Aachen, who had temporarily overtaken them, slipped back behind Regensburg. Schweinfurt, who remain in last place with nine points, are probably beyond help. Everything points to them returning directly to the Bavarian Regional League.
