Injury worries are growing at Borussia Dortmund just a few weeks before the start of the Bundesliga season.
As reported by the “Ruhr Nachrichten” on Tuesday, regular goalkeeper Gregor Kobel is another professional to join Nico Schlotterbeck, Julien Duranville and Thomas Meunier in being injured during the German soccer vice-champion’s trip to the USA. According to the report, the 25-year-old suffered a slight muscle fiber tear during his team’s 3-2 test match win in Las Vegas against Manchester United. He had been replaced by Alexander Meyer at half-time of the match.
Kobel is therefore likely to miss the final two preparation games against Chelsea FC (August 3/2:30 p.m.) in Chicago and Ajax Amsterdam (August 6/5 p.m.) in Dortmund. His appearance in the first competitive match on August 12 (3:30 p.m.) in the DFB Cup at TSV Schott Mainz is questionable. The goalkeeper could be available again for the start of the league on August 19 (6:30 p.m.) against 1. FC Köln.
Already in the first test of the eleven-day trip to the USA against San Diego Loyal (6:0), international Schlotterbeck (knee) and winger Duranville (muscle fiber tear) were substituted with injuries. In addition, full-back Meunier (muscular problems) and attacking players Jamie Bynoe-Gittens (rehabilitation training after shoulder surgery) and Giovanni Reyna (leg injury) are out for the time being.
