There is still no peace at third division club Waldhof Mannheim. Following the recent change of coach, the managing director has now been dismissed. A decision with a history.
SV Waldhof Mannheim kept it short and sweet on social media on Tuesday (February 6, 2024) when the club announced the departure of managing director Markus Kompp.
“The supervisory board of SV Waldhof Mannheim 07 Spielbetriebs GmbH announces that Markus Kompp has been dismissed as managing director of the company with immediate effect,” it read in three lines. Plus three hashtags.
There is nothing more from the club. It is also not known who will succeed Kompp. However, the decision comes as no surprise. At the beginning of December, it was decided that Kompp’s contract, which was due to expire on June 30, 2025, would not be extended. At the general meeting, fans had called for him to be sacked.
Waldhof are in a poor sporting position. The Mannheim club are 17th in the table, which puts them in first place in the relegation zone. In contrast to MSV Duisburg, who are in 19th place and seven points behind the drop zone, Mannheim are in 16th place. Only one point is missing to Hallescher FC.
Waldhof Mannheim recently changed coaches
Mannheim had already sacked coach Rüdiger Rehm last week. Marco Antwerpen was introduced as his successor at the traditional club.
The 53-year-old brings with him the experience of 132 games in the 3rd division from his time before Mannheim. He has an average of 1.59 points per game. Antwerp will be supported by Frank Döpper, who was already assistant coach at 1. FC Kaiserslautern during Antwerp’s last engagement
“I’m really looking forward to my new role here at Waldhof. The starting position in the table speaks for itself, but we still have enough games left this season and the necessary quality in the squad to turn things around. The task now is to strengthen the team with positive impulses and achieve sporting success,” Antwerpen commented on his new job.
The first match was a 2:2 draw against SC Preußen Münster. Next up for Mannheim is a tough away game. On Saturday, February 10, 2 p.m., they travel to third-placed SSV Ulm 1846 Fußball.
