After eight games without a win, SV Wehen Wiesbaden have plummeted to 16th place in the Bundesliga 2. This man is to lead the Hessians above the bottom until the end of the season.
SV Wehen Wiesbaden have opted for an internal solution in their search for a coach. The current team of professional coaches, led by current assistant coach Nils Döring, will coach the Red & Blacks until the end of the season in the remaining three league games against Holstein Kiel, Eintracht Braunschweig and St. Pauli, after the previous head coach Markus Kauczinski was released on Sunday.
In addition to Döring as head coach, the coaching team includes assistant coach Giuliano Modica, goalkeeping coach Marjan Petkovic and match analyst Phil Weimer. The quartet will be joined by club legend Alf Mintzel as second assistant coach until the end of the season.
“We decided to appoint Nils Döring with full conviction and therefore deliberately chose an internal solution,” explained SVWW managing director Nico Schäfer. “Nils knows SVWW and the team, is a soccer coach and is aware of the big challenge. He is held in high regard by the players, so we trust him to reach the team emotionally and in terms of content. We are convinced that we will manage to stay in the league in this constellation.”
Born in Wiesbaden, Döring has been co-coach of the SVWW professionals since the start of the 2021/22 season. Prior to that, the ex-professional had already worked as a coach in the Red & Blacks’ youth academy for six years. Prior to that, Döring was team manager of the first team, having worn the SVWW jersey in his last year as a professional in the 2010/11 season
I know the boys and am absolutely convinced of the team’s fundamental qualities. That’s why I firmly believe that we will manage to stay in the league. We all know that in the end we can only do it together. As a unit on the pitch together with our fans in the stands

Döring is looking forward to the task and is full of energy. With three games to go until the end of the season, Wehen Wiesbaden are one point off the safety of 15th place.
Döring: “I’m really looking forward to tackling this big task with the team and my coaching team. I am very grateful to the club for this great opportunity. I know the boys and am absolutely convinced of the team’s fundamental qualities. That’s why I firmly believe that we will manage to stay in the league. We all know that in the end we can only do it together. As a unit on the pitch together with our fans in the stands. “
