Relegation, coach has to go – ex-Kray coach with SGW past takes over

Tues Haltern is reorganizing after its relegation to the Landesliga. Also in the coaching position, where Alexander Zerche has to go.

Alexander Zerche is no longer coach of relegated Westfalenliga side TuS Haltern am See. The club announced this at the start of the week.

“The decision was anything but easy for us, Alex has put a lot of time, passion and commitment into the club and his work for the team over the past six months. Nevertheless, we have come to the conclusion that we need to create new momentum for our mission in the national league so that we can make a fresh start without the burden of relegation. We wish Alex all the best for his sporting and personal future,” said Daniel Haxter, Head of Football.

Zerche joined TuS Haltern am See in December 2023 and coached the first team to five wins, two draws and eight defeats in 15 matches. In addition to Zerche, Karoly Spranger’s involvement in the first-team coaching team is also coming to an end. The TuS writes that the assistant coach can no longer devote the time required for professional reasons and will have to step back in future.

Meanwhile, the new head coach comes from within the club’s own ranks. In addition to his position in the youth department of TuS Haltern am See, Sebastian Amendt was most recently in charge of the Lower Rhine regional league club FC Kray until the beginning of April. Prior to his role as head of the Seestadtschmiede, Amendt had already been on the sidelines for the TuS second team in the regional league.

He therefore knows TuS Haltern very well. “Sebastian is a proven soccer expert and has a wealth of experience in senior soccer. Through his previous work at the Seestadtschmiede, he can and should continue to promote the connection between the youth and first teams and integrate and develop the boys coming from the U19s in the best possible way. He also knows the club and many of the first-team players very well, so there’s no need for him to get used to the club. He was our preferred solution and I am delighted that we were able to recruit him for this position,” said Haxter.

Amendt has also coached the SG Wattenscheid 09 U19s and later became assistant coach of the first team at Lorheide. He also worked as an assistant coach for MSV Duisburg’s U17s in the 2011/12 season.

“I’m really looking forward to the task and want to help the team stabilize again. I know a lot of the boys, feel their confidence and want to work with them to ensure that we put a team on the pitch that is capable of development and can play soccer with enthusiasm again. We also want to ensure that more people come to the Stauseekampfbahn again, as was already indicated at the end of last season,” said Amendt.

He continued: “To achieve this, it is necessary for the boys to rediscover their enthusiasm for the game, which they have lost to some extent. I’m aware that this will take a lot of work, but I’m sure that we can do it as a collective. “
