Rot-Weiß Oberhausen’s second team has made a successful start to the 2025/2026 Kreisliga B season.
The time had finally come for the Kreisliga B reserve team of regional league club Rot-Weiß Oberhausen: The first competitive game of the new season was coming up – away at Sportfreunde 06 Sterkrade. Around 200 spectators watched the match on Thursday evening (August 21, 2025). The Kleeblätter got off to an energetic start and created numerous chances. However, the ball refused to go in for a long time until Moritz Wegener scored the deserved lead with a header in the 13th minute. But the hosts struck back immediately: after a pass to Tobias Ernst, the experienced offensive player scored the 1-1 equalizer – a classic example of the football saying: “If you don’t score up front, you’ll concede at the back.”
The Kleeblätter’s response was not long in coming: Bryan Mrozinski headed in shortly afterwards to restore the 2-1 lead. The teams went into the break with this score.
After the restart, Rot-Weiß Oberhausen’s second team immediately pushed forward towards the opponent’s goal. But as in the first half, they failed to capitalize on numerous chances. Finally, it was Moritz Wegener who scored his second goal to make it 3-1. In the closing stages, Thore Pomorin sealed the victory with the final score at 4-1.
“We should have decided the game after 15 minutes. I counted four big chances that went unused before the 1-0. I know that the boys are most annoyed about that themselves – but of course that makes every opponent stronger,” said RWO II head coach Günter Abel.
The next game is on Friday, August 29, 2025, at 8 p.m. with the first home game of the season. The opponent will be the second team of Blau-Weiß Fuhlenbrock from neighboring Bottrop. RWO II is the clear favorite to be promoted to Kreisliga A.
