KFC Uerdingen has to cope with the resignation of its first chairman. 1400 tickets have already been sold for the cup game against RWE.
During the long winter break of the Oberliga Niederrhein, things didn’t get boring around KFC Uerdingen. Actually, the focus should be on KFC’s desire to advance to the Regionalliga West in the remaining round.
Instead, the agenda included a large hole (€500,000) that needed to be filled quickly. Then came the supposed problems surrounding the home game against Rot-Weiss Essen in the Lower Rhine Cup. However, these were unfounded, and the club can plan for a full capacity of over 10,000 spectators.
Of the 500,000 euros, almost 156,000 euros have now been raised. However, KFC will have to do without its first chairman Marc Schürmann in the search for further donors.
He informed the KFC Uerdingen board of directors that he was resigning from his position as first chairman and from the KFC Uerdingen board of directors with immediate effect for personal reasons.
“We very much regret this decision,” explains Nils Gehlings, Chairman of the Board of Directors. ‘We would like to thank Marc Schürmann for the time and work he has put into the club and wish him all the best for his personal and professional future.’
In a statement from the club, CFO Bernd Limberg explains: ”We are continuing to work hard to stabilize our club and get it back on track.”
The KFC board currently consists of three people (Sebastian Thißen, Bernd Limberg and Andreas Scholten). “We have come to an internal agreement and decided that Sebastian Thißen will take over the board responsibilities for the time being,” emphasizes Scholten, the deputy chairman of the traditional club.
Of course, it is our wish that the board will be expanded again in the near future, and we will make a specific proposal for this.

“Christian Gummert will also be in charge of sponsoring. We will also receive support from our cooperation with VEU Ruhr GmbH & Co. KG, which will establish a KFC entrepreneur group.”
Looking ahead, however, there should be one more person on the board in the foreseeable future, as Sebastian Thißen reports: “Of course, it is our wish that the board will be expanded again in the near future, for which we will make a concrete proposal. We all need to continue to focus on our goal of strengthening the club for the future. Because next week the league games are set to resume, followed by two very special home games, for which we will need all of you in the stadium in large numbers! Advance ticket sales for the cup game against Essen are going extremely well. After just two days, around 1,400 tickets have already been sold in advance to members and season ticket holders.”
