The coach has extended his contract, the board has been replaced: Rot-Weiss Essen can now concentrate fully on squad planning.
Rot-Weiss Essen has entered a turbulent last week of February 2024. The previous board members Marcus Uhlig and Sascha Peljhan will be succeeded by Marc-Nicolai Pfeifer and Alexander Rang, who is currently already on the board as head of sales and marketing, by the new season at the latest.
Coach Christoph Dabrowski also extended his contract in February until June 30, 2026, and RWE is currently in negotiations with many players.
There are a lot of talks, after all, 15 working papers, including Marvin Obuz’s loan contract with 1. FC Köln, expire at the end of the current 2023/2024 season. Lucas Brumme’s contract had already been extended in recent weeks until the summer of 2025 via an option after he reached a certain number of appearances.
Forecasting has now learned that two other RWE professionals, whose contracts are currently valid until summer 2024, also have a clause in their contracts. These are Jose-Enrique Rios Alonso and Thomas Eisfeld. According to our information, the clause has almost been reached in both cases
According to RS information, the contract of central defender Rios Alonso has been extended by a further year until June 30, 2025.
There is a small catch: 23-year-old Rios Alonso, who has played 26 of 27 possible third division games over the full distance this season, has an exit clause. According to information from this editorial team, the former VfB Stuttgart player is likely to leave for a higher-class rival for a transfer fee stipulated in his contract.
This means that if RWE remain in the third division, the Spanish-born player can leave Essen for a fixed sum to play in the 1st or 2nd Bundesliga or move abroad. But: If Essen is promoted, Rios Alonso will not be allowed to move within the second division
The situation is different for Eisfeld. The 31-year-old central midfielder’s option to extend his contract at Hafenstrasse for a further year is linked to a certain number of appearances. Eisfeld has been playing regularly since the start of the year against Aue and is well on his way to reaching the quota for a contract extension at Rot-Weiss Essen.
