Rose warns against Schalke, Werner a candidate for the starting eleven

Coach Marco Rose of Bundesliga football team RB Leipzig is warning against relegation-threatened opponents Schalke 04 despite their league position.

“We have a really tough job waiting for us,” said the coach ahead of Tuesday’s match (6.30pm/Sky), “a team that will fight very passionately and intensely for every chance.”

Schalke coach Thomas Reis had been his seatmate in the football coaching course, Rose explained: “I know what’s in store for us. Schalke have a new intensity”, and the team also played a “very good game” in the 0:3 at Eintracht Frankfurt. Rose believes that “the direction and the feeling are right there again, nevertheless they have too few points, of course.”

In Gelsenkirchen, Timo Werner can hope for more playing time. He wants to bring the international “possibly closer to 90 minutes again”, Rose said. The striker was substituted in the 67th minute after surviving a syndesmosis tear in the 1-1 draw against Bayern Munich on Friday. Rose will have to make do without goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi and attacker Christopher Nkunku due to injury.
