Third division club Rot-Weiss Essen are in the middle of preparations for the new season. There is still a lot of work to do when it comes to squad planning
Rot-Weiss Essen’s preparations for the new third division season are entering the hot phase
We will be leaving for training camp next week, but there are still some vacancies in the squad. The squad planners around sports director Christian Flüthmann and sports director professional soccer Marcus Steegmann would like to sign at least three new players, preferably long before the start of the season on August 3 against Alemannia Aachen.
What’s happening for Rot-Weiss Essen on the transfer market? How should the latest signings be assessed and what impression does the new RWE boss Marc-Nicolai Pfeifer make? We provide answers to these questions in our RWE talk “vonne Hafenstraße”. Presenter Kira Alex discusses with our RWE reporters Krystian Wozniak and Martin Herms
It will depend on Christoph Dabrowski again. He has proven that he can develop individual players and a team

In terms of transfers, there has already been some activity at Hafenstrasse recently. Robbie D’Haese (KV Oostende, Belgium), Michael Schultz (Viktoria Köln) and Dion Berisha (FC Bayern II) have been unveiled as new signings in the last few days. The club is still looking for reinforcements for the central midfield, the attacking wing and the center forward position. It is now clear that former Dresden player Ahmet Arslan, one of RWE coach Dabrowski’s preferred players, will not be moving to Hafenstrasse. His advisor has confirmed this to RevierSport.
One thing is clear: the players we are looking for should help RWE progress, and RWE has a sufficient number of promising players in the squad. For this reason, those responsible in Essen are still keeping a low profile when it comes to formulating sporting goals for the new season. And our RWE reporters? “It really is still too early to make a final assessment of the squad. But the next transfers have to be right, because we haven’t yet succeeded in replacing the high-caliber departures. Ultimately, it’s a question of expectations. Does RWE want to play at the top like last year? Then it will be very difficult with the current squad. It should be enough to stay in the league,” says RWE reporter Martin Herms
Rot-Weiss Essen: Dabrowski has proven his quality
According to Krystian Wozniak, the Red & Whites’ greatest hope is on the coach’s bench: “Christoph Dabrowski will be the key again. He has proven that he can develop individual players and a team.”
