The round of 16 fixtures in the Mittelrhein Cup have been drawn. The favorites from the 3rd division and regional league will not face each other yet.
The round of 16 matches in the Mittelrhein Cup were drawn on Tuesday evening. First things first: the two top favorites for the title, Alemannia Aachen and Viktoria Cologne, will not face each other yet.
State league club FV Bonn-Endenich drew the big prize and will host Alemannia from Aachen. The 2023/2024 cup winners will therefore return to Bonn, having faced SC Fortuna Bonn (7-0) in the second round. According to the cup rules, the lower-ranked club always has home advantage. The second third division team, Viktoria Cologne, will also face an underdog. The defending champions will have to play against district league club Wahlscheider SV. Regional league club Fortuna Köln also drew a manageable opponent. Coach Matthias Mink’s team will be guests of state league club DJK Rasensport Aachen-Brand. At least one district league team will also advance to the quarterfinals, as SC Elsdorf (District League 3) and SSV Jan Wellem (District League 1) are two lower-division teams facing each other in a direct duel.
According to the provisional schedule, the round of 16 will be played on the weekend of November 22. The matches involving third division and regional league teams can be scheduled as early as November 19.
