Regional league side Wuppertaler SV welcome Rot-Weiß Oberhausen to the Stadion am Zoo on the next matchday. That’s what coach Ersan Parlatan says ahead of the game.
Wuppertaler SV have picked up a strong 21 points from their last ten games and have climbed to second place in the table as a result. However, because leaders Alemannia Aachen have collected seven more points in this period, the gap to the leaders is already a whopping eleven points.
Should Alemannia not collapse completely and WSV win all seven remaining games at the same time, Wuppertal will have to make friends with another year of regional league soccer. However, those around Hubertusallee do not want to look that far into the future. WSV are currently in second place in the table and could at least finish runners-up for the second time in a row.
The next task is Rot-Weiß Oberhausen on Saturday afternoon (April 6, 2 p.m.). The box office opens at 12.30 p.m. and advance tickets are already on sale online. So far, 1700 tickets have been sold. Wuppertal are aiming for their fifth home win in a row in this traditional duel against the newly crowned Lower Rhine Cup finalists.
Head coach Ersan Parlatan has also set this agenda: “This is certainly a special game, a Lower Rhine derby. We want to continue our winning streak and collect a lot more points until the end of the season. We want to get the best possible position. If you look at the table, we’re in second place. It’s all very close, but we want to come out on top. Even if we can’t buy anything for second place in the table, that’s a position we want to achieve. “
I’m convinced that the team has this greed to want to win every home game here in order to ultimately achieve the minimum goal of second place in the table. That wouldn’t be the icing on the cake, but it would still be a successful season for us.

The 46-year-old expects a match of equals against the upcoming opponents from Oberhausen: “Oberhausen are defined by their robustness, strength in tackles and willpower. Of course, they also have good footballers in their ranks. We also have to show this robustness, this strength in tackling and want more than our opponents. I’m convinced that the team has this greed to want to win every home game here in order to achieve the minimum goal of second place in the table. That wouldn’t be the icing on the cake, but it would still be a successful season for us. “
