Giant euphoria at Alemannia Aachen: The fans of the Kaiserstädter are dreaming of a return to paid soccer and are currently running into Alemannia’s stadium.
Alemannia Aachen wants to return to professional soccer after a ten-year absence. The traditional club last played in the 3rd division in the 2012/2013 season. Since then, Alemannia has been stuck in the Regionalliga West.
But in the 2023/2024 season, they could return to the third division: After a disastrous start and the early dismissal of coach Helge Hohl, Heiner Backhaus took over and got Alemannia back on track. Aachen are currently top of the table thanks to their superior goal difference.
The team managed to catch up – Alemannia Aachen only conceded one defeat in Bocholt under Backhaus – also thanks to the great fan support. Alemannia is “in” again in Aachen. An average of 15,170 spectators make the pilgrimage to the Black & Yellows’ matches, 7780 season tickets have been sold. The away games, most recently around 2500 Aacheners in Mönchengladbach, are turning into home games.
Home game double pack coming up
And now it’s off to the Tivoli twice in a row. On Saturday (February 10, 2 p.m.), Rot-Weiß Oberhausen in the regional league and four days later (Wednesday, February 14, 7.30 p.m.) Viktoria Köln in the Middle Rhine Cup quarter-finals.
More than 15,500 tickets have already been sold for the Oberhausen game – as of Tuesday, February 6, 6.45 pm – and Alemannia is also expecting more than 15,000 fans for Viktoria Köln.
Marcel Moberz, head of the Alemannia supervisory board, is delighted. He has been very active on social media for weeks and is also delighted this time via Facebook: “We’ve cracked the 15,000 mark! There is still a huge rush! Thank you, thank you! More importantly, I’d like to tell you about our team: the boys are focused and full of positive energy. Where there was pressure at the beginning of the season, today there is only power to be seen. It’s an honor for our boys to be up there and they want to defend it with all their might. In the 98/99 promotion season, we had an average attendance of 7,900 fans at the Tivoli. This season it’s already over 15,000! I think you can see how much the ‘Öcher’ have found their way back to Alemannia and at the same time that a lot of hard work is being done at the Tivoli! The new way zesame simply works. “
