Rot-Weiss Essen now has a CEO again. Only since July 1, 2024, although Marc-Nicolai Pfeifer could have started earlier – if TSV 1860 Munich had played along.
First of all: Rot-Weiss Essen has a new CEO. After Marcus Uhlig’s last day at the end of May, the third division club was without a chairman for a month.
He has been in place since July 1, 2024. Marc-Nicolai Pfeifer has officially taken office. There are quite a few people who are asking themselves: Why couldn’t the 43-year-old take up his position in Essen earlier?
Some say so, others say so: TSV 1860 Munich claimed that Pfeifer never sought an early termination of his contract, while Essen’s supervisory board chairman André Helf said that Bayern did not want to let Pfeifer out of his contract. Forecasting reported.
Pfeifer, who had previously muzzled himself on this matter due to the ongoing contract, was finally able to present his point of view during his official presentation.
It’s never pleasant when people talk about you and you can’t or aren’t allowed to speak out. Personally, I think it’s important to be able to shake hands and look each other in the eye. We are not yet completely divorced on the legal side, but I hope we can still manage that.

“It was clear from the start that it would start on July 1 at the latest. We had an initial discussion with my previous employer shortly after the commitment became public and checked whether we could terminate the contract so that I could start work in Essen earlier. In my opinion, the whole thing then went in a direction on a personal-emotional level in which no agreement was reached. Afterwards, we only spoke to legal advisors and lawyers. That wasn’t what I wanted either. I prefer a personal dialog. Unfortunately, that didn’t work out. But I’m here now and full of energy. I’m looking forward to the work,” explained Pfeifer.
And what does Pfeifer have to say about the attack from Munich? In mid-June, the Löwen board announced via the portal “sechzger.de”: “Marc-Nicolai Pfeifer has never asked TSV 1860 Munich to terminate his contract prematurely. The club would of course have been prepared to do so immediately. We have no knowledge of the motives for preferring to sit out the current contract.”
Pfeifer said on Monday, July 1, 2024, about his relationship with the 1860 managers and the dispute with his former employer: “It’s never pleasant when people talk about you and you can’t or aren’t allowed to speak out. Personally, I think it’s important that you can shake hands and look each other in the eye. We’re not quite legally divorced yet, but I hope we can still manage that. In any case, my employment with 1860 Munich is over. So I can now fully get going here. “
