Rot-Weiss Essen II secured a victory against the leaders of Bezirksliga 6. Vogelheimer SV lost 0:4.
Déjà vu for Rot-Weiss Essen’s second team. Last week, RWE faced the leaders of the Bezirksliga 6 from the Lower Rhine region – SV Burgaltendorf (3-3) – and gave away a 3-0 lead. Now Vogelheimer SV were the new leaders and had to play RWE. But Essen’s second team didn’t let anything slip this time and won 4-0.
“I think you can sum it up simply: effectiveness won the day. When it’s 0:4 on the scoreboard, you have to be careful not to make a fool of yourself,” Vogelheim coach Carsten Isenberg made clear. Because as crazy as it sounds, the 4:0 score was actually too high for RWE in what was a fairly even match.
Joel Leon Beta scored the 1-0 (3rd minute) after less than three minutes. But Rot-Weiss was by no means dominant. “In the early stages, RWE was very aggressive and then scored the goal. We weren’t really on the pitch at that point. But after the first ten minutes, we took control of the game – even without creating any really decisive chances. Efficiency is also a quality, and our opponents had that today,” explained Isenberg.
“An early goal is always a blessing and a curse. Shortly after that, we had another great opportunity, but we’re not going to complain about scoring goals in a phase like this. It was unexpected, but it was good that we were able to take the lead,” said RWE II coach Stefan Lorenz, describing his view of the game.
Rot-Weiss Essen extended their lead with a penalty from Burak Bahadir in the first half (32′) and went into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
Last week, they won 3-0. Déjà vu? “Of course, that’s in the back of your mind, and I had the same fear. I thought, let’s see how Vogelheim comes out of the dressing room, they’ll certainly push forward a lot. But VSV couldn’t match the pressure that Burgaltendorf put on last week. Nevertheless, they are one of the top teams, and even they had to lose at some point,” Lorenz admitted. Jan-Luca Geurtz (54′) and Joel Bema for the second time (83′) didn’t let anything slip. This was certainly frustrating for VSV, because they could have achieved more, definitely. “RWE was very efficient, got into the game well and scored with their first chance. From that point on, we were chasing the game. Essen seemed to score with every shot, but that’s no excuse. When you lose 4-0, you don’t deserve anything – especially when you don’t get into the box and don’t defend consistently enough,” explained Isenberg after the game, with his Vogelheim team slipping to second place.
