Before facing the league leaders, RWE II suffered its second defeat in a row in the Lower Rhine District League 6. They are now five points behind the leaders.
Rot-Weiss Essen II got off to a disappointing start to their top-of-the-table clashes in the Bezirksliga Niederrhein 6. Before their matches against SV Burgaltendorf (first), Vogelheimer SV (second), Arminia Klosterhardt (fourth) and SpVgg Sterkrade 06/07 (sixth), they suffered a 0-4 defeat at home against VfB Frohnhausen.
RWE II had gone what felt like an eternity without defeat, but now they have suffered two defeats in just a few days. First a 1-2 defeat to TuSEM Essen, now a 0-4 defeat to Frohnausen, which saw VfB climb to third place and RWE drop to fifth, already five points behind SV Burgaltendorf, who won their away game at Heisinger SV 2-0.
In Essen, former professional Kevin Grund had a great chance to put RWE ahead after just a few minutes. Mohamed Said then managed to do just that, putting VfB in the lead.
The score remained the same until half-time. After the break, RWE looked the better side, and the game was still open with ten minutes to go.
But then Frohnhausen struck twice in quick succession. Milad Mansoori made it 2-0 in the 80th minute, and Issa Adnan Said sealed the deal in the 86th minute. One minute later, he scored his second goal of the game. In the end, there was a scuffle that resulted in several yellow cards.
Then it was over and RWE II had been defeated for the second time in a row. The entire competition took advantage of this opportunity. Burgaltendorf won in Heisingen, Arminia Klosterhardt won 4-1 at Landesliga relegated team SpVgg Steele 03/09, Vogelheimer SV won 2-1 at Spvgg. Sterkrade-Nord 2-1, and Spvgg Sterkrade 06/07 took apart bottom-of-the-table Blau-Gelb Überruhr, who are still without points, 8-1.
This coming Sunday (3 p.m.), RWE II and coach Stefan Lorenz will have to be careful not to let the gap at the top get too big, as they travel to league leaders SV Burgaltendorf. SVA have only suffered one defeat so far, a 2-1 loss to Fortuna Bottrop on the third matchday. Since then, they have won six games in a row.
