Rot-Weiss Essen will have to do without Jakob Golz at the start of the training week. This is the situation regarding his appearance in Aue on Sunday.
If you beat the league leaders 4-0 (2-0) in a highly deserved manner, you can easily adopt some of the training content from the previous week. This was apparently what the coaching team of the third division soccer club Rot-Weiss Essen thought.
Just like exactly a week ago, the RWE pros were able to compete against each other in a tournament at the end of the second training session of the day. They played in teams of three on two small pitches. The coaches counted all the goals and at the end of the intensive session, there was a winner. “Team Blue” with Manuel Wintzheimer, José-Enrique Rios Alonso and Robbie D’Haese came out on top.
A total of four goalkeepers were needed for this game, but Jakob Golz was not one of the RWE goalkeepers who took to the training ground at Hafenstraße on Wednesday afternoon. Felix Wienand, Ole Springer and two U19 goalkeepers were in training with them.
Regular goalkeeper Golz is ill and missed the start of the training week. The RWE management hopes that the 26-year-old will be able to resume training on Thursday after his day off, otherwise it could be tight for the Essen goalkeeper ahead of the away game at Erzgebirge Aue (4:30 p.m.) next Sunday.
Jakob Golz is a long-term fixture at Rot-Weiss Essen
Golz is the long-term fixture in the Red & White squad alongside Rios Alonso. Since being promoted to the 3rd division, the son of HSV legend Richard Golz has only missed three games, two of them last season due to flu. According to the club, however, the RWE key player has not been as badly affected this time. They are confident that Golz will be able to play in Aue.
In the Ore Mountains, the local club will only be without the long-term injured Ekin Celebi and Moussa Doumbouya, as well as Julian Eitschberger, who is still serving a red card suspension. The U20 national player misses his last competitive game after his controversial sending off against SC Verl. Kelsey Owusu, who was feeling unwell at the beginning of the week, returned to training on Wednesday.
The mood at the RWE training ground was relaxed after the relieving home win against Cottbus. Coach Dabrowski entered the pitch with a broad smile on his face, and the players also appeared relaxed. As in the home game against Energie Cottbus, Dabrowski had to do without his assistant coach Lars Fleischer. Attentive observers in the stadium had noticed that Paul Freier Fleischer had taken his place on the sidelines next to Dabrowski. Fleischer is ill with coronavirus. It is still unclear when he will return.
