RWE opponent concedes 0:5 – Boss wants “real home game” against RWE

The joy at 1. FC Wülfrath was enormous last Friday: RWE was coming to the Landesliga club in the 2nd round of the Niederrheinpokal. On Sunday, however, the mood was no longer good.

Michael Massenberg, boss of 1. FC Wülfrath, was delighted when RevierSport told him the news on Friday that FCW would face third-league side Rot-Weiss Essen in the 2nd round of the Lower Rhine Cup.

“We will celebrate this on Friday at the team evening,” Massenberg told RS.

The team evening then also took place. It was also intended to get the team in the mood for the start of the season in the Landesliga. But it went wrong. RWE’s opponents lost 5-0 in Wermelskirchen last Sunday.

In the next few days there will be a meeting at our facility and then we will see if we get the green light for a home game against RWE.

“We are bitterly disappointed, of course. We were hoping for an extra boost for the team after the 1-0 win in the cup against Kray and the draw with Rot-Weiss Essen. But unfortunately, we missed many things in Wermelskirchen. I didn’t see the basic virtues,” says Massenberg. Already next Sunday, when 1. FC Wülfrath receives VfB Frohnhausen, those responsible hope to see the true face of FCW.

At Silberberger Weg, 1st FC Wülfrath would also love to welcome Rot-Weiss Essen in mid-September for the 2nd round of the Lower Rhine Cup. “We want a real home game,” Massenberg emphasises and explains: “We have contacted the police authorities, our district police and the Essen police, as well as Rot-Weiss Essen in the person of Mr. Damian Jamro. In the next few days, there will be a meeting at our facility and then we will see if we get the green light for a home game against RWE. “
