RWE vs. RWO – no winner in the Bundesliga relegated teams’ clash

On Saturday, the U19 Niederrheinliga saw a derby between Rot-Weiss Essen and Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. The spectators didn’t see a winner.

The U19 Niederrheinliga teams of Rot-Weiss Essen and Rot-Weiß Oberhausen drew 0-0. RWE remains six points ahead of RWO in the table.

Rot-Weiß Oberhausen did not hide at the favored RWE. From the start, the team of the new head coach Rafael Garcia, who had only taken over from Daniel Balk on Friday, performed courageously and confidently.

After seven minutes, the first RWO chance: Ozan Hot, the Oberhausen left-back, crossed sharply from the left into the opposing penalty area, Daniel Raul just missed with his head in the center.

Rot-Weiss Essen tried to take control of the game and also created chances for Jan Friessner (12′), Etienne-Noel Reck (15′) and Ahmed Etri (18′), but these were thwarted by the Oberhausen defense or goalkeeper Luis Plath.

The best chance in the first half belonged to the guests: Leon Koch, Essen’s goalkeeper, fouled an Oberhausen player in the penalty area and the referee awarded a penalty. Koch made up for his mistake and made a great save to parry Ozan Hot’s penalty in the 28th minute. The teams went in at half-time all square.

The first chance of the second half belonged to the guests. Hot (55′) curled a dangerous free-kick towards the Essen goal, forcing Koch into a fine save.

On the subsequent counter-attack, Essen had their best chance. Yasin Pirnal played a sweet through-ball into the path of Milot Ademi, who was through on goal. However, Ademi was denied in the one-on-one situation (58′) by the onrushing RWO keeper Plath.

The teams traded blows openly without creating any big chances. The game ended 0-0 in the duel of the two Bundesliga U19 relegated teams.
