RWO coach Nowak sees “an all-round successful evening”

Rot-Weiß Oberhausen had no trouble in the Lower Rhine Cup quarter-final against SF Hamborn, winning 7:0. Here’s what both coaches had to say afterwards.

Rot-Weiß Oberhausen advanced to the semi-finals of the Lower Rhine Cup with ease. They recorded a clear 7:0 victory against the Oberliga team SF Hamborn. The game was already decided after the 3:0 at half-time.

RWO coach Jörn Nowak was pleased with the performance afterwards: “We set out to play the game with more confidence than in previous rounds. We managed that right from the start. We scored the goals at the right times. I’m particularly pleased for the substitutes, who were rewarded with goals.”

The semi-final will be against the winner of the match between SF Baumberg and 1. FC Bocholt. Nowak wasn’t looking ahead just yet, however, but once again praised the manner of the victory: “You have to score seven goals first. That’s why it was an all-round successful evening. We’re delighted to have made it through to the semi-finals. “

After the cancellation of Oberhausen’s Regionalliga West match against SSVg Velbert next weekend, the team from the Lower Rhine only has one league match left on the schedule. On Saturday, December 16, at 2 p.m., RWO will host the U23s of Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Nowak looks ahead with a twinkle in his eye: “Let’s see if we can play in the Gladbach winter sports area then. Now we’ll first see how the next few days really go and then we’ll prepare ourselves in peace.”

“I understand a lot of things, but it hurts that you lose 7:0 here”

Hamborn coach Julian Berg, on the other hand, seemed more than upset after the defeat: “I have to defend my team. Everyone here was motivated going into the game. But the history of the first half of the season has left deep wounds. We trained with twelve men for five weeks. We had a huge injury epidemic with over ten absentees. In the end, you realize that those who always play don’t have the strength. But that’s no excuse. I understand a lot of things, but it hurts that you lose 7:0 here.”

Hamborn are also falling short of expectations in the Oberliga Niederrhein. They are in 14th place with 15 points. One point ahead of the first relegation place.

Nevertheless, the 35-year-old wants to squeeze everything he can out of the last two games of the year against Spvg Schonnebeck (Sunday, December 10, 2:15 pm) and FC Büderich (Sunday, December 17, 2:15 pm): “The aim must be to get the maximum yield. Of course, we know that it will be very difficult. But we want to get six points. With two home games, that’s within the realms of possibility. And then let’s hope that we can start our preparations with the entire squad on January 7. “
