On Saturday (18:30) FC Schalke will play against FC Bayern München. A flood of goals from S04 is not to be expected.
During the week, FC Schalke celebrated the important home victory against FSV Mainz (1:0) in the Bundesliga. This gives the Königsblauen hope again in the relegation battle.
The win was important for several reasons. For example, because the competition at the bottom of the table also scored and now only the home game against FC Bayern Munich is coming up before the long winter break.
And if you want to keep your hopes up for a sensation, you’d better not look at the statistics of the last few years. Because the numbers are simply cruel from S04’s point of view.
The last ten duels were all won by the record champions. The last goal scored by the Knappen was also a very long time ago. On 9 February 2019, a certain Ahmed Kutucu scored in the 1:3 at Bayern to make it 1-1 in the interim.
Last Schalke win against Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga dates back to 2010
Since then, 515 minutes have passed without Schalke scoring a goal against FCB. Only keeper Ralf Fährmann is still part of the current squad.
Bayern, on the other hand, have not even had a complete shake-up of their personnel during that time. Five players from the starting eleven of 2019 – Sven Ulreich, Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman – are also in the Bayern squad on Saturday.
Accordingly, this quintet knows no defeat against Schalke, as the Königsblauen’s last victory against the FCB was even longer ago than their last goal. In the Bundesliga, the last S04 victory was in December 2010, when Manuel Neuer was still in Schalke’s goal. Schalke also won in 2011 – in the semi-finals of the DFB Cup, Schalke won 1:0 in Munich.
Schalke fans are dreaming of such a result on Saturday. Because dreaming is not forbidden…
