Sabitzer switch fixed – this is how sports director Kehl explains the transfer

Borussia Dortmund have signed Marcel Sabitzer from FC Bayern Munich. This is what the midfielder and BVB sports director Sebastian Kehl have to say about the transfer.

The next new signing for Borussia Dortmund: Marcel Sabitzer will play for the Black and Yellows in the future. The 29-year-old midfielder moves to the Ruhr area from rival FC Bayern München. Most recently, he played for Manchester United on loan.

In Dortmund, Sabitzer has signed a contract until 2027. He will travel with sporting director Sebastian Kehl on Tuesday to the USA, where BVB has been on a preparatory trip since this Monday.

“Marcel is an experienced player who has been playing at the top international level for years,” Kehl explained the signing of the Austrian international. “He fits the profile we were looking for exactly: a central midfielder who will strengthen us as a box-to-box player both defensively and offensively. Marcel is physically strong and also radiates a lot of goal threat.”

BVB is convinced “that he will also become an important pillar of the team due to his personality and will help us to be even more assertive, especially in contested games. “

I want to play my part in helping BVB achieve its goals.

Marcel Sabitzer on his move

Sabitzer has been under contract with FC Bayern for the past two years. Austria’s Footballer of the Year 2017 experienced his best time at RB Leipzig, where he played from 2015 until his move to Munich. In total, Sabitzer has made 185 appearances in the Bundesliga and 32 games in the Champions League.

“I can’t wait to finally join the team and wear the BVB jersey. The talks with Borussia Dortmund’s officials were excellent and showed me how ambitious the club wants to be in the coming years,” says the new Dortmund player. “I want to do my part to ensure that BVB achieves its goals and has every reason to celebrate something special with its fans again as soon as possible.”

Sabitzer is BVB’s third new signing after Felix Nmecha (VfL Wolfsburg) and Ramy Bensebaini (Borussia Mönchengladbach).
