Sandhausen brings former Uerdingen player back to the 3rd division

SV Sandhausen has presented a new signing for the defense. He is a former KFC Uerdingen player.

From the beginning of 2020, Edvinas Girdvainis played for KFC Uerdingen in the 3rd division for a year and a half. Now the captain of the Lithuanian national team is returning to this division: he will play for SV Sandhausen in the future, the club announced on Thursday afternoon.

After his time in Krefeld, Girdvainis played for Kauno Zalgiris in his home country. At the beginning of the new year, he is expected to offer SVS coach Jens Keller another option in the center of defense.

“As captain of the national team, Edi brings a wealth of experience and knows German football from his time at Krefeld,” explained sporting director Matthias Imhof in a club statement. ”We are expanding our options for the coming year as we are very thin in the center of defense.”

At KFC, Girdvainis was part of the starting lineup – when he was fit. Several injuries slowed him down, otherwise he was usually in the starting lineup. The national player played 33 third-division games for Krefeld. He left Grotenburg with the club’s relegation to the fourth division in the summer of 2021.
