Newcomer Kim Sané promptly scored the opening goal for Wattenscheid 09 against Preußen Münster with his first shot on goal. RS spoke to the 27-year-old returnee.
During the week, SG Wattenscheid announced Kim Sané as the next summer addition to their offensive line. The older brother of Bundesliga star Leroy was convincing as a trial player and signed a contract at the Lorheide.
When coach Christian Britscho had the 27-year-old play up top in the first game of the season at SC Preußen Münster, the SGW fans were amazed. Sane has stayed away from football for the past five years, playing American football and athletics instead.
Despite this, he immediately received the full confidence: “For me, it was a great pleasure to be back on the pitch for the first time after such a long time. When I stepped onto the pitch, I was almost in tears,” admitted the returnee.
Like in the script: Sane scores first goal of the season
The fact that Sané has been working on his sprinting career as an athlete in recent years paid off right at the start of the game. Winger Emre Yesilova set the scene perfectly for the newcomer, Sané ran away from his opponents and scored the 1:0 opening goal for SG Wattenscheid 09 in front of a full Münster fan section: “It was a great feeling. When I scored the goal, I just thought ‘Wow’. It was a huge weight off my mind. For the first goal, it was okay by my standards. But despite all the joy, it didn’t help much in the end,” said the attacker.
The second goal shortly before the break, after he was again the target of a counterattack but failed to score against Münster keeper Schulze Niehues, did not come. Nevertheless, Sané proved to be a direct reinforcement and flashed his qualities. His greatest weapon was “his speed and his finishing,” the Austrian-born player said.
He has not forgotten his heading and tackling skills either. In some situations, however, the long break from football is noticeable: “I still have to learn some tactics. You notice that I was out of it for too long. “
Sané on the start of the season: “We can take a lot with us.
Despite the 1:4 defeat in the opening game, the SGW can draw positive conclusions. Sané is highly motivated and wants to build on the team performance from the first half: “We played very well in the first half against Preußen, the top favourites in the league. We can take a lot from that. We will also play well against Wuppertal.
