Third division club Rot-Weiss Essen travel to Bavaria again this weekend. Then the away game at SSV Jahn Regensburg is on the program.
For the fourth time in a row, the players and fans of Rot-Weiss Essen had to travel home empty-handed after an away match: On Tuesday evening, RWE conceded a 2-0 defeat at defensively compact but harmless Munich “Lions”. Once again, the visitors were instrumental in the defeat with two individual mistakes of their own.
“I’m happy to take the blame for what happened on Tuesday. I encourage the boys to play soccer in exactly the same way. They are totally capable of it. I’m not going to point the finger at the individual and pin it on a mistake. The boys can do it. We have to develop even more conviction away from home, react quickly and make the right decisions. We’re in fifth place in the table, have 39 points and are capable of playing fantastic soccer. I am and remain convinced of that. This is a development process,” summarized Essen head coach Christoph Dabrowski two days after the 1860 match.
On Saturday (February 10, 2 p.m.), Dabrowski’s squad will visit the sovereign leaders SSV Jahn Regensburg and have the chance to do better again.
The former Bundesliga professional was not only without the long-term injured Ekin Celebi (shoulder injury) and Sandro Plechaty (torn inner ligament), but also regular goalkeeper Jakob Golz (flu-like infection), Sascha Voelcke and captain Vinko Sapina (both knee problems) during the last visit to Grünwalder Straße.
Voelcke and Sapina will also be out in Regensburg. I’m very optimistic that Golz will be fit again after his flu-like infection. The pictures we took of Sapina didn’t show anything serious. But Vinko is still in his own body and currently has some problems that prevent him from going into a game at 100 percent.

At the press conference ahead of the Regensburg game, Dabrowski gave an update on the physical condition of the three players: “Voelcke and Sapina will also be out in Regensburg. I’m very optimistic that Golz will be fit again after his flu-like infection. The pictures we took of Sapina didn’t show anything serious. But Vinko is still in his own body and currently has some problems that prevent him from going into a game at 100 percent. We hope it gets better day by day and we have to make sure we get him back on the pitch next week. “
