In the Niederrheinpokal against Arminia Klosterhardt, Dominik Burghard scored his first goal for Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. This is how the 19-year-old saw the match.
Rot-Weiß Oberhausen took the first hurdle in the Niederrheinpokal without a hitch, but with aplomb. With their success in the city duel against Arminia Klosterhardt from the Landesliga, RWO won their fourth competitive match in a row.
For Dominik Burghard, it was also a personally successful evening. The defender, who came from his own U19 team in the summer, opened the scoring in the 4-0 win with his first ever competitive goal in the men’s game.
“The play from the boys was good, everyone tried everything to score a goal,” said the debutant goal-scorer, expressing his satisfaction. Compared to the last league match against FC Gütersloh, coach Jörn Nowak rotated the players almost completely, which is why Burghard was allowed to start from the beginning.
The 19-year-old defended for RWO for 90 minutes and kept the score level with the defensive unit. “We then played it more calmly in the second half, in the first half we had a lot of scoring chances and could have scored more goals,” also knew the young defender, who marked the 1:0 with his head in the 11th minute. “The result was definitely deserved.”
Klosterhardt “very motivated” – RWO next in Düsseldorf
The duel with the Landesliga team was not a foregone conclusion, however, and Arminia was a thoroughly unpleasant opponent for the Kleeblätter. “They were very motivated, played a good game and threw everything into it,” described Burghard, who was challenged against the Klosterhardt side not only as a goalscorer but also at the back.
Burghard has played 45 minutes in the league so far this season, against SC Wiedenbrück he made his debut in the second half. Next up for RWO is already on Friday (1 September, 7.30 p.m.) to the reserves of Fortuna Düsseldorf II. “They are probably a deep-standing opponent who has fast players for individual pinpricks,” Burghard expects an unpleasant opponent. “It will be another difficult game that we are looking forward to.” And after the 90 minutes, perhaps also about the next victory.
