The East Westphalia derby against Arminia Bielefeld awaits SC Verl this weekend. The sports club will then celebrate a new away attendance record.
Towards the end of the first half of the season, SC Verl was still the team of the moment in the 3rd division. In the meantime, the momentum has evaporated. With four defeats in a row, the East Westphalians have slipped to 13th place in the table.
Sportclub will be looking to get back on track on Sunday – and will also have the chance to win some derby prestige. The East Westphalia derby at Arminia Bielefeld is on the agenda (4.30 pm, RS live ticker).
The Verlers can look forward to great fan support from the visitors’ block at the game on the Alm. On Thursday, 1,500 tickets had already been sold, as the sports club announced in response to an inquiry from the portal “liga-3online.de”. And there could be even more, as the guest block is not yet sold out.
Verl has thus even set a new club record. The previous record number of spectators dates back to May 2022, when 600 fans traveled to the match against Borussia Dortmund’s U23s. There will probably be around three times as many in Bielefeld, 20 kilometers away.
A remarkable number by Verl standards. Coach Alexander Ende’s team is accompanied to visiting matches by an average of 100 supporters. This puts them at the bottom of the away fans table in the 3rd division. Last season, there was even only one fan in the visitors’ block for the away game at FSV Zwickau. Photos of the “lone fighter” went viral afterwards.
Now a new away attendance record awaits. A new record was already set in the first leg against Bielefeld. The 3:1 victory over Arminia was watched by 5207 spectators in the sold-out Sportclub Arena – never before had it been so full. The return match in Bielefeld’s Schüco Arena will be played in front of at least 19,000 spectators. The Verler’s opponents are also in a results crisis and have won just one of their last eight third division games
