At the start of the new season of the Regionalliga West, SC Wiedenbrück will face Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. As always, what counts for Wiedenbrück is staying in the league.
SC Wiedenbrück starts its fourth consecutive season in the Regionalliga West with a reunion with an ex-player. Against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen, coach Daniel Brinkmann, who counts the Oberhausen side among the favorites in the promotion race, certainly doesn’t want to just hide.
“We want to be fully up against it, be cheeky and also look for our chances on the offensive,” Brinkmann specifies instead. Last season, Wiedenbrück defeated the Kleeblätter 5:1 on the penultimate matchday, and RWO won the first leg 1:0 at Stadion Niederrhein.
Now the clocks are back to zero. And the Oberhausen team is quite ambitious ahead of the new season. “RWO has a super squad with great reinforcements,” Brinkmann agrees, referring to newcomers such as Moritz Stoppelkamp and Oguzhan Kefkir. And estimates, “For me, they are a team that can move up.”
The first stumbling block on the way there, however, should be SC Wiedenbrück. In any case, the coach is optimistic about the pre-season preparations. “I am very satisfied. We haven’t had any injuries and the new players have integrated quickly,” describes Brinkmann.
The two top scorers are gone – three newcomers on offense
Before the new season, Wiedenbrück is also baking rather small rolls. “The goal, as always, is to stay in the class,” says Brinkmann. “Play-wise, we want to keep the good defense and become more effective offensively.” With Steffen Rohwedder (Atlas Delmenhorst), Benjamin Friesen (Kickers Emden) and Davud Tuma (RW Ahlen), Wiedenbrück also added personnel offensively.
