Four times 0:0 – FC Schalke 04 is currently discussing the value of these four zeros. Meanwhile, there is praise from Berlin.
FC Schalke 04 recently scored four out of a possible twelve Bundesliga points. There have been four zeros in a row for S04 – a Bundesliga record.
But what is this worth for Schalke? Will it help the Königsblauen at the end of the season? These are the questions that many FC Schalke 04 fans have asked and continue to ask.
The fact is that Schalke are six points behind relegation place 16 after the recent 0-0 draw at 1. FC Union Berlin, now third in the Bundesliga. Nevertheless, S04 coach Thomas Reis assessed the draw at the Alte Försterei positively: “We got a draw at the second-placed team in the table and kept the score level again. We showed good stability and are happy to take the point.”
And there was also nothing but praise from Union Berlin, who missed out on top spot in the table with this draw against Schalke. Robin Knoche, for example, said: “Every Bundesliga game is hard work, we know that and Schalke are doing it very well at the moment. They bring a lot of discipline and intensity to the pitch. Of course, we should have asserted ourselves offensively today, but we didn’t manage to do that. That’s why we ended up with a 0:0. “
The successful Berlin coach Urs Fischer took a similar view to the Union centre-back. The Swiss summed it up: “In the end, we can live with the point. We struggled a lot, especially with the ball. Often we weren’t brave enough and didn’t dare to press. And if you are too imprecise, it is difficult to create chances against a well-organised opponent. Now the focus is on Ajax and then we’ll see.”
After all, before the Eisernen head to Bayern for the summit clash next weekend – Sunday, 26 February, 5.30pm – they have the second leg of their Europa League tie against Ajax Amsterdam (first leg: 0-0) at home in Berlin on Thursday (23 February, 9pm).
