Regional league team FC Schalke 04 II ended the season with a commanding victory over Rot Weiss Ahlen. The score was 4:0 after 90 minutes.
The 34th and final regional league matchday between FC Schalke 04 II and Rot Weiss Ahlen kicked off at the Parkstadion in Gelsenkirchen on Thursday evening.
While Schalke wanted to remain unbeaten for the ninth time in a row, the bottom team from Ahlen were hoping for a three-pointer to at least hand over the red lantern to Wegberg-Beeck by Saturday. However, this plan did not succeed: The miners were a size too big for the relegated team and won 4:0 (2:0).
The game started later than expected: Due to a thunderstorm, kick-off was delayed by over 30 minutes, with the ball not rolling until 7.04pm. Schalke were not impressed by this, however, and got off to a strong start. Marouane Balouk hit the crossbar after just nine minutes and Kelsey Meisel did better two minutes later, putting S04 ahead with a precise shot.
Meisel then scored his personal brace shortly before the break to make it 2:0 (44′) against the harmless visitors from Ahlen
Schalke also added two more goals in the second half. Jimmy Kaparos (51) made it 3:0 and shortly before the end of the game, substitute Akbar Tchadjobo, in only his second appearance of the season, made it 4:0 (88). That was also the final score.
Both teams now head into the summer break: Schalke played a strong round, scored 51 points and will finish the season in fifth place, ahead of Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. Ahlen, on the other hand, will have to plan for the upcoming Oberliga Westfalen season.
