Schalke II in free fall – heavy defeat against Paderborn II

The second team of FC Schalke 04 is still in free fall in the Regionalliga West. They suffered a heavy defeat against SC Paderborn II.

The horror series of FC Schalke 04 II continues! On Friday afternoon, the Royal Blues lost 4-0 at home to SC Paderborn II – their last win in the Regionalliga West now stretches back twelve games!

Despite the return of the ailing captain Tim Albutat, Jakob Fimpel’s team experienced a real false start at the unusual kick-off time (Friday 2 p.m. – on Saturday the U19 will play against Wolfsburg in the Junior Cup at the Parkstadion).

Julius Langfeld converted the initial Paderborn superiority into the lead after just nine minutes with a header following a corner kick. And it got even worse: Tim Schmidt brought down Trevis de Jong on the way to goal, and referee Johannes Liedtke ruled that an emergency brake and sent him off (19th minute) – Schalke II was now not only highly unsettled, but also down a man for a full 71 minutes.

SC Paderborn took advantage of the gift, continued to play freely and soon doubled their lead: De Jong scored the 2:0 (23rd minute). The guests retreated a little as a result, Schalke tried to at least hold out. Any danger of scoring? None at all.

During the break, Fimpel professional Peter Remmert came on. Just five minutes later, he had to watch as Joel Vega Zambrano made it 3:0. Paderborn was now finally in the easy mode. Remmert at least gave a royal blue sign of life with a shot on the bar, before Luca Gleissner put the final point in the game with his 4:0 (81′).

Schalke II are in penultimate place with eight points from 14 matches, while Paderborn II are now in eighth place with 21 points.
