Paderborn II has slipped deeper into the relegation battle in the Regionalliga West. The SC clearly lost at Schalke 04.
FC Schalke 04 II secured a 3-0 (1-0) home win against SC Paderborn II to kick off the 26th matchday of the Regionalliga West and push the visitors deeper into the relegation battle.
The Gelsenkirchen side initially had more possession and dominated the game, while Paderborn looked relatively uninspired and were unable to develop their attacking play.
The 1:0 after 26 minutes was the logical consequence. The Royal Blues played their way through on the left, Paderborn failed to clear the ball properly and Tim Schmidt had no trouble slotting the ball into the right-hand corner from eight meters.
The picture remained the same after the goal, and worse still, the visitors made life difficult for themselves. Keeper Schulz took too long after a back pass and shot at his opponent – but the ball went towards the corner flag.
SCP coach Dennis Schmitt reacted to the poor half by making three changes. Before the changes had been announced, the referee pointed to the spot: penalty for Schalke. Nelson Amadin converted confidently (47′).
Paderborn tried to get into the game with playful solutions, but kept losing the ball. Without consequences, as Schalke did not know how to exploit this.
Finally, a quarter of an hour before the end, the decision was made: Substitute Kelsey Aninkorah-Meisel fired in from over 20 meters and netted to make it 3:0 (74′). Shortly afterwards, there was still a chance to equalize at the other end. After a long throw-in, the ball slipped to Otto, who narrowly missed (81′).
Schalke II climbed to ninth place in the Regionalliga. The air is getting thinner for SC Paderborn, who are already two games and only six points clear of the relegation places
