FC Schalke defended their lead in the U17 Bundesliga with a derby win at Rot-Weiss Essen.
In the U17 Bundesliga West, the derby between Rot-Weiss Essen and FC Schalke was on the agenda on Wednesday. Both teams have started the season well.
Schalke was in first place after ten games, RWE in a strong sixth place. The good start to the season was confirmed by FC Schalke, who won 2-0 (2-0) in Essen.
Before the match, RWE coach Michael Delura, who also has a Schalke past, stressed to RS: “Nobody expects anything from us against Schalke. Here comes the absolute top favorite. Of course, it will be difficult to get three points. But we’ll put our team spirit on the line and try to make the most of our minimal chance. We won’t hide, but will try to play our own game and be successful with our switches. I feel a lot of anticipation.”
But that was clouded after just one minute, as the Königsblauen took the lead with their first attack. At the end of the first attack was at the far post Yassin Hidraoui Akachar, who only had to push in.
After Essen’s Mats Preßler missed the chance to make it 1-1, it was Alan Takoudjou Somolinos who made it 2-0 for Schalke just before the break. It was the decision, because after the break only Schalke played for a long time.
RWE tried to keep up, but the better chances had the Knappen, who were closer to 3:0 than Essen to the connection. Schalke thus remains unbeaten, just like Bayer Leverkusen. And the two teams will meet shortly.
More precisely, on Wednesday (October 25, 7 p.m.). RWE already plays again on Saturday (October 21, 11 a.m.) – then it’s off to last-place VfB Waltrop.
