On Saturday (26 August, 2 pm), FC Gütersloh will be hosting Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. We spoke to the most experienced FCG player, also about the West derby RWE against Münster.
Julian Schauerte moved from 1. FC Kaan-Marienborn to FC Gütersloh this summer. The 35-year-old is a leading player in FCG coach Julian Hesse’s team.
No wonder: Schauerte looks back on 171 second league and 101 third league games. He played for clubs like Preußen Münster, Fortuna Düsseldorf or SV Sandhausen and knows how the business works.
In Gütersloh, he has arrived in semi-profession. So he, too, can plan his professional future.
Forecasting spoke to Schauerte, who lives in Winterberg, before his Gütersloh move to Rot-Weiß Oberhausen.
Julian Schauerte…
his beginnings in Gütersloh: “From day one, everything has been good in Gütersloh. The team is intact, many of the boys from the promotion team have stayed. Of course, the newcomers still have to get to know the coach’s idea of the game. In my experience, you can only learn that in competitive matches. There is a different tension, a different feeling and a much higher intensity than in training or test matches.”
… the start of the season: “The Kiel game in the DFB Cup was a bonus game. We sold ourselves well there. Otherwise, we’ve picked up four points from three games in the league. That’s very respectable for a promoted team.”
… the next opponents Rot-Weiß Oberhausen: “The offensive is really strong. Players like Sven Kreyer or Moritz Stoppelkamp would certainly also like to have some third-league teams in their ranks. It’s going to be a tough battle that we absolutely have to take on in order to surprise Oberhausen.”
… his professional career: “I’m currently working in scouting for a Bundesliga team. That’s a part-time job. I’m also co-coach at FC Arpe/Wormbach, a regional league team in the Sauerland. Both jobs are a lot of fun. As you can easily see, I want to stay in the football business after my career.”
… the third division West derby between Rot-Weiss Essen and Preußen Münster: “I was able to experience these great games in the first regional league and also in the second year after Münster’s relegation from the 3rd division. It’s always a highly explosive game. Hafenstraße is a hot spot. It’s a hot place. I hope that everything stays sporting and that Preußen win in the end. My tip? 2:1 for Münster!”
