Fortuna Düsseldorf is in a results crisis. The second division leaders suffered their third defeat in the last four games against newly promoted Münster.
Second division leaders Fortuna Düsseldorf have slipped up again and are in danger of falling out of the promotion places completely on the eleventh matchday.
The team coached by Daniel Thioune suffered its second defeat in a row and third in the last four games, losing 1-0 (0-1) to Preußen Münster, who were second from bottom before the game. Jano ter Horst (26th minute) secured three important points for the promoted team.
Thanks to their second win of the season in front of 12,424 spectators in a sold-out stadium on Hammer Straße, coach Sascha Hildmann’s team jumped out of the relegation zone for the time being.
Fortuna remains at the top of the table, at least until Saturday, but could be overtaken by three teams this weekend.
Preußen keeper Johannes Schenk impresses
Fortuna had already lost 3-4 to 1. FC Kaiserslautern the previous week, missing out on the chance to pull away in the table. As against the Palatinate side, Düsseldorf was the better team in Münster, but again made crucial mistakes in defense. In addition, Preußen keeper Johannes Schenk had a very strong day.
The underdogs took the lead with their first shot on the Fortuna goal. Right-back ter Horst nodded in with his head, taking advantage of one of the league leaders’ many defensive errors. The Rhinelanders put constant pressure on the Preußen goal, especially in the second half, but were unlucky and lacked ideas at times.
