Schommers on Mai’s position and managing director resignations

MSV Duisburg faces an immensely important game on Saturday. VfB Lübeck will be the visiting team.

MSV Duisburg is hoping that a win will finally bring it closer to safety. The team is currently eight points adrift, but a victory on Saturday against VfB Lübeck, which is currently five points ahead of the Zebras, would put the safety zone back within sight.

On Friday, MSV coach Boris Schommers spoke about…

… Wednesday’s 0-0 draw in Saarbrücken: “The boys have reflected on everything and seen it in a positive light. But we also know that the point from Saarbrücken will only be of use to us if we follow it up with three points against Lübeck. We want to get a win!”

… the starting position: “I don’t see Lübeck at an advantage because they are a promoted team and are struggling at the bottom. They certainly imagined things would be different. The next 22 games are important for us. Lübeck are currently ahead of us, and we want to change that before the winter break if possible.”

… the focus for Saturday: “We showed on Wednesday that we’re ready to fight. But on Saturday, we also have to make sure we invest more in our play and create chances. That will be different from Wednesday. We have to do better, we have to be the team that’s on the front foot and force the goals.”

… Sebastian Mai’s position: “Sebastian Mai is always an option in attack. But you can’t base your offensive play on one person. If we see him more at the back, then that’s what we’ll do. In any case, we have ideas in the coaching team when it comes to his role.”

… the announced resignations of the managing directors: “From my point of view, this doesn’t affect day-to-day business at all. When we have time to recharge our batteries, we all try to calm down and not let it have a negative impact. We are responsible for the sporting side of things.”
