Schommers on May’s position and managing director resignations

MSV Duisburg faces an immensely important match on Saturday. VfB Lübeck will be the visitors.

MSV Duisburg want to finally move closer to the non-relegation places with a win. The gap is currently eight points. However, a win on Saturday against VfB Lübeck, who are currently five points ahead of the Zebras, would put them back within sight of the rescue zone.

On Friday, MSV coach Boris Schommers spoke about…

… the 0-0 draw in Saarbrücken on Wednesday: “The lads have reflected on it all and taken a positive view. But we also know that the point from Saarbrücken will only help us if we go one better against Lübeck – three times. We want to get a win!”

… the starting position: “I don’t think Lübeck have an advantage now because they’re a promoted team and are down at the bottom. I’m sure they also had different expectations. The next 22 games are important for us. Lübeck are currently ahead of us and we want to change that before the winter break if possible.”

… the approach for Saturday: “We showed on Wednesday that we’re up for the fight. But on Saturday we also have to make sure that we invest more in our play and create scoring chances. That will be different to Wednesday. We have to do that even better, we have to be the active team and simply force the goals.”

… the position for Sebastian Mai: “Sebastian Mai is always an option in attack. But you can’t base your attacking play on just one person. If we’d rather see him at the back, then we’ll do that too. We definitely have ideas in the coaching team when it comes to his role.”

… the announced resignations of managing directors: “From my point of view, that doesn’t affect day-to-day business at all. When we have the time to regenerate, we all try to come down a bit and not have another negative touch. We are responsible for the sporting side of things. “
