Schommers on the May position and managing director resignations

MSV Duisburg faces an immensely important game on Saturday. VfB Lübeck will be the guests.

MSV Duisburg finally wants to move closer to the non-relegation places with a win. Currently, the gap is eight points. But with a win on Saturday against VfB Lübeck, who are currently five points ahead of the Zebras, the zone that will save them would be within reach again.

On Friday, MSV coach Boris Schommers talked about……

the 0-0 draw in Saarbrücken on Wednesday: “The boys have reflected on everything and seen it positively. But we also know that Saarbrücken’s point will only help us if we add to it against Lübeck – three points at least. We want to get a win!”

… the situation: “I don’t see Lübeck having an advantage now because they’re a newly promoted team and are doing well down there. They’ve probably also imagined things differently. The next 22 games are important for us. Lübeck are currently ahead of us, but ideally we want to change that before the winter break.”

… the focus for Saturday: “We showed on Wednesday that we’ll take the fight to the opposition. But on Saturday we’ll also have to make sure that we invest more in terms of play and create goal chances. It’ll be different from Wednesday. We’ll have to do even better, we’ll have to be the team that takes the initiative and just force the goals.”

… the position for Sebastian Mai: “Sebastian Mai is always an option up front. But you can’t base your offensive play around just one person. If we see him in the back more often, then we will. In any case, we have ideas in the coaching staff when it comes to his role.”

… the announced resignations of the managing directors: “From my point of view, this does not affect our daily business at all. When we have time to regenerate, we all try to calm down a bit and not have yet another negative touch. We are responsible for the sporting side of things.”
