Last week, the top teams in the Oberliga Niederrhein slipped up. On this match day, all of the top six teams won except Baumberg. Here are the details.
In the Oberliga Niederrhein, leaders Ratingen 04/19 took the lead on Saturday. The score was 4-2 after 90 minutes at Adler Union Frintrop, with Ratingen coming back from 0-1 down.
The other two games went to the bottom teams. BW Dingden won the promoted teams’ duel at Holzheimer SG 1-0, and on Friday, the bottom team from Biemenhorst showed signs of life with a 3-1 win over Baumberg. On Sunday, the last six games were on the schedule. SpVg Schonnebeck was under pressure at VfB Homberg. They wanted to respond to their 3-5 defeat in the derby against ETB, and they also needed three points to keep Ratingen in sight. And the Essen team delivered with a 2-1 win at VfB. Niko Bosnjak gave Schonnebeck the lead in the first half with a penalty. Around this scene, Homberg’s Leon Schübel was sent off with a red card. With a man advantage, Luca Pinke scored after the break to seal the victory. But Homberg came back again – also with a penalty kick. Andres Dimas converted it (78th minute). Shortly afterwards, Schonnebeck’s Matthias Bloch was also sent off with a yellow-red card. It was not enough to equalize with equal numbers, so Schonnebeck defended second place.
Third and fourth place were decided between KFC Uerdingen and VfB 03 Hilden in a long-distance duel. VfB Hilden set the course for victory early on at 1. FC Monheim, with the final score 4-0. Now VfB had to hope for a slip-up by Uerdingen against TSV Meerbusch. However, Krefeld took the lead before the break through Mohamed Benktib. After the break, KFC conceded the equalizer through Florian Berisha. But the visitors only held on to the 1-1 score for seven minutes, then it was Etienne-Noel Reck who put Uerdingen back in the lead. The score remained 2-1, leaving KFC in third place.
SC St. Tönis is now fifth after defeating SV Sonsbeck 2-1. ETB SW Essen is also in the upper half of the table after drawing 1-1 with 1. FC Kleve. ETB had to play with ten men for over an hour after Armen Shavershyan was sent off with a red card (28′). When Dario Gerling then put Kleve ahead after the break, things were looking bleak for Essen. But Nico Lucas equalized for ETB in the 76th minute, and the score remained 1-1. In the last game of the day, VfL Jüchen-Garzweiler won 5-1 at FC Büderich.
