VfL Osnabrück is eagerly awaiting the top match against MSV Duisburg. VfL coach Timo Schultz warns against the Zebras.
It’s a role that MSV Duisburg is hardly familiar with anymore. When the Zebras take on VfL Osnabrück on Saturday, November 1, at 2 p.m., they will not be doing so as league leaders. After all, they lost first place to Energie Cottbus following their 1-1 draw with Rot-Weiss Essen.
Nevertheless, the promoted team is of course having a very strong season. Who would have thought that after twelve match days, the Zebras would travel to Lower Saxony in second place and be able to distance themselves from VfL Osnabrück by six points?
VfL head coach Timo Schultz is also well aware of the danger and quality that MSV Duisburg poses. “They are very dynamic and strong players. They are eager to play and have already scored a few goals. You can see that they are having fun. They have carried the euphoria from last season with them. The team is very harmonious and well-rehearsed. It will be a real challenge,” he said in an interview with the club channel.
For Schultz, MSV Duisburg was not a normal regional league team either. “Last season, they already met the standards of a third division team. With Rasim Bulic and Christian Viet, they have made some top transfers. In addition, they have signed Florian Krüger, a striker who can make the difference. Duisburg is an absolute top team.”
So everything is set for a top match, for which VfL is of course also preparing. “Unfortunately, our training week was a bit like Osnabrück. When the weather isn’t good, the training conditions aren’t quite as good. That’s when you realize we’re in the third division. We had to split up on a small artificial turf pitch.“ Nevertheless, no one is complaining, especially since the team was able to train in the stadium again towards the end and can continue to do so. ”It won’t have any impact on Saturday,” Schultz assured.
The Osnabrück coach is looking forward to a crackling atmosphere—with visiting fans. There was no sign of them in the recent 0-4 defeat to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim II. “We’re eager to play and want to perform better. I think Duisburg are also coming to win the game. So, let’s go!”
