Preußen Münster played a friendly match against third-division side TSV Havelse on Thursday. The Eagles, led for the first time by new coach Alois Schwartz, suffered a defeat.
SC Preußen Münster used the international break for a friendly match on Thursday at Sportpark Berg Fidel against third-division side TSV Havelse. In the debut of new coach Alois Schwartz, who is tasked with leading the second-division bottom-dwellers to safety, Münster ultimately lost 0-1 (0-0).
The Eagles had several chances to take the lead, especially in the first half. However, Imad Rondic (9th and 24th minutes) and Tobias Raschl (8th minute) failed to convert. Raschl also missed a fine cross from Oliver Batista Meier by a hair’s breadth (15th minute). At the other end, the home side were lucky that Havelse defender Leon Sommer hit only the crossbar following a corner kick (17th minute).
His teammate Christopher Schepp did better after the break, nodding in a perfectly placed cross from the left corner of the penalty area to give the visitors the lead (65th minute). It remained the only goal of the day, as substitutes Shin Yamada (53rd) and SCP academy product Mikail Demirhan (78th)—who was making his professional debut—also narrowly missed the target.
“Of course, it would have been nice if we’d managed to win a game like this. But perhaps it also reflects the current situation, which isn’t easy. We had them under control in the first half and created some clear-cut chances. But we have to score in those situations,” Schwartz is quoted as saying on the club’s website. “The last thirty minutes, on the other hand, weren’t good. The longer the game went on, the more our heads got in the way—we need to clear that out now.”
There’s still time until Easter Sunday (April 5, 1:30 p.m.), when SC Preußen Münster visits bottom-of-the-table rival Holstein Kiel. There, Schwartz’s team is practically forced to win after two recent stinging defeats against rivals from Magdeburg (1-3) and Dresden (0-6).
Here’s how they played:
