SC Preußen Münster continues to dominate the league in the new year and has left the competition in the dust. For SCP coach Hildmann, that is not a matter of course.
SC Preußen Münster kicked off the new season with two top games in a row. But coach Sascha Hildmann’s team came out on top against both Aachen (4:0) and Gladbach II (2:1).
The league leaders thus not only underlined their dominance, but also their ambitions for promotion. Whenever a rival challenges the black-and-white-green eagle-bearers and moves a little closer in the standings, Preußen Münster is always there.
“Of course that’s the case. But it is very, very hard work. You have to confirm that every weekend. The boys have to keep going up. Against us, everyone is even a bit more motivated and calls out even more. That’s why it’s even more difficult, it’s even harder work for us,” explains Hildmann.
The dominance of the SCP is also reflected in the goal ratio. In addition to having the best defence, Preußen Münster also has the best attack in the league with 56 goals. Hildmann also saw the qualities of the Eagle Bearers on the offensive in the summit meeting against Gladbach II, where SCP striker Gerrit Wegkamp headed Münster to victory. “We need strikers like that. When you’re in front, you also need people who can put things in. Gerrit scored a good header – an important goal. Andrew Wooten was also always dangerous and almost scored his goal. We already have very good boys on the offensive,” Hildmann knows.
Our fans are top class. It’s simply fun to celebrate victories with them. But the other day I was thinking about a situation where we were knocked out in the cup. They were standing in the same way in the stands and we still sang “All together for Preußen Münster”. That’s what makes our fans. When they sing that, they live it.

And the aforementioned Wegkamp can think of another factor that allows the SCP to shimmy from victory to victory: “You don’t have to think about it for long. Our fans are top class. It’s simply fun to celebrate victories with them. But the other day I was thinking about a situation where we were knocked out in the cup. They were standing in the same way in the stands and we still sang “All together for Preußen Münster”. That’s what makes our fans. When that is sung, then you live it.”
After two games against top teams in the league, Preußen Münster’s next match is against SV Straelen, who are bottom of the table. However, according to goal-scorer Wegkamp, that doesn’t play such a big role: “We’re doing really well if we look at ourselves. We are on top right now and want to stay there. We don’t care what the others are doing. If we score our points, nobody can catch us. That has to be our credo. If we don’t leave anything behind, then we do our job. “
