Season opener at Hafenstrasse – Dabrowski now wants to work on this

On Friday, July 12, the season opener took place at the stadium on Hafenstraße. Rot-Weiss Essen then presented the new home jersey

The season opener of Rot-Weiss Essen in their own stadium was a great experience for all fans despite the initial capricious weather. The Rahn-Tribüne was opened to fans from 2 pm. The event was planned by the club’s fan and development department

Despite the miserable weather, several hundred fans turned up to watch the new team led by head coach Christoph Dabrowski. The team then took to the pitch at the Hafenstrasse stadium at around 3 p.m. and the “Opa Luscheskowski” sounded for the first time in the new season.

The spectators, who were equipped with rain jackets and umbrellas, did not let their good mood be dampened and greeted the new team with loud applause. After the new players Michael Schultz, Jimmy Kaparos, Tobias Kraulich, Ramien Safi and Dion Berisha were introduced, training got underway. New signings Tom Moustier (metatarsal fracture) and Robbie D’Haese (arm injury) were absent due to injury

After the warm-up program, the ball rolled again for the first time under the critical eyes of the fans. Coach Dabrowski and his team were focused and committed on the pitch. It was a great opportunity for the spectators to get a first impression of the new additions

After the rain gradually subsided, an eleven-a-side game followed on half the pitch. Here, the RWE coach already drew up a possible starting eleven for the coming season: Jakob Golz – Lucas Brumme, Tobias Kraulich, Michael Schultz, Jose-Enrique Rios Alonso, Eric Voufack – Torben Müsel, Jimmy Kaparos – Ramien Safi, Leonardo Vonic, Dion Berisha

The opposition played with a back four during this training match. We already know from previous seasons that the head coach likes to switch between a back four and a back five.

After the training session, the 46-year-old said: “There are still three weeks until the first game. I’m very happy with the current state of preparation. We’re now looking forward to the training camp, as we want to increase the intensity there and get closer to the team. The processes still need to be consolidated more. Nevertheless, it’s great that so many people turned up despite the bad weather.”

The Essen team trained for around 90 minutes. At the end of training, the players left the pitch for 30 minutes. Then, freshly showered and kitted out in the new home jerseys for the 24/25 season, they took to the pitch again. Dressed in the new jerseys, the players and the coaching team then posed for the fans to sign and take photos.
